today's forage

here be dinner

Avocado from sunny MEH-hee-ko; the first radishes of the season, courtesy Fisher Farms in Janetville (JA-net-vill) via North Oshawa Farmers’ Market, and greens from my own rained-upon garden (sorrel, arugula, leaf lettuce, dandelion, chives, radish sprouts) — all chopped up and drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper… and for god’s sake don’t forget the garlic.

All of that = dinner.

That and a big fat pork chop.

  1. Oh my, how wonderful to have all that from your garden already! I planted various greens and herbs three weeks ago but hardly anything came up, probably because the weather has been barely above zero ever since.

    • Oooh. That’s a cold Spring. No weeds to feast on? (;
      I just found a recipe for dandelion pesto I can’t wait to try.
      Hope things warm up a bit for you soon. Nothing like going into the garden with a knife and a bowl, eh?

      • We have had weeds: dandelion greens and fiddleheads. It’s just the ones in my garden that are slow. Anyway, the sun is out today and we are into double digits I think. It’s the icebergs that do this to us I think and apparently there are lots of them this year, though I haven’t seen any yet.
