At eleven o’clock I decide to walk to the grocery store and buy sardines. Because I can and because I’m suddenly overcome with a yen for a sardine salad and we’ve been out of sardines for at least a week and no home should be without them.
Or lemons for that matter, but this isn’t about lemons.
I’m back in time to cut some greens from the garden, collect a few dandelion flowers and some buds too (every part of a dandelion is edible, even the milky stalks, which is handy to know should you ever find yourself feeling peckish in the middle of a field).
I chop a shallot, toast a slice of Eziekiel bread for croutons then toss the lot with olive oil, sprinkle with kelp and cayenne… and settle down to The Big Bang Theory at noon—my latest lunch-with-TV obsession.
